Installation Process
Initial Setup
- Before installing your seal, clean the installation site where you are going to put down the seal. Remove any oil, grease and other contaminates on the ground.
- If the ground has been painted, use a wire brush to completely remove any paint. This is to ensure the seal sticks to concrete and not a thin layer of paint.
- Measure the overall width of your opening (brick to brick), add 100mm and trim seal. You will need that 100mm extra for a snug, watertight fit.
- Trim the seal to fit around the door frame, ensuring the best possible seal. Close your door and check if any light can be seen underneath or the edges.
Before Sealing, ensure:
1. Your seal should be fitting snugly either side of the door frame.
2. Your floor seal's raised section, with the door closed, should touch the bottom inside edge of the garage door seal.
3. No light should be visible between the floor seal and garage door seal for the best waterproof seal.
Sealing the Deal
1. Once you are happy with the position of the seal on the ground, outline it's position with a pencil and remove seal.
2. Draw two parallel lines 10mm inside the outline of your seal. Read the can of sealant you have purchased and apply the required thickness (e.g. 4-5mm bead, etc) of sealant in a zig-zag fashion between the two parallel lines.
Once you have finished applying the sealant, immediately begin installing the floor seal.
3. Starting at one end, carefully position the door seal into the outline you drew in step 1 and press downwards, moving along until the entire seal is neatly inside your outline.
4. Check fitment over and ensure the seal is straight / inside your outline. Wipe off excess sealant immediately, otherwise, trim after it has cured.
Close your garage door and leave it closed for at least 24 hours. Do not drive on seal. Do not open your door.
This will maintain continuous pressure on the seal and allow the adhesive bond to correctly mold to the seal, giving you the best install possible.
